Innovative Partnership/Collaboration Award recognizes innovation in partnerships between a child support agency and any other groups that assists families, including but not limited to collaborations between a child support agency and court or another agency, organization, or program that serves parents, families or children.
This year’s program recipient of the 2023 NCSEA Innovative Partnership/Collaboration Award was created to serve parent(s) reintegrating into the lives of their children after being involved with the justice system. The program is dedicated to reducing barriers for justice-involved families and has established partnerships with multiple community organizations to provide access to resources and opportunities that go beyond child support to reduce recidivism and ease the process of re-entry into the community after serving a sentence in jail or prison including employment, housing, basic needs, and beyond.
Reports show that 911 justice involved cases within the county’s caseload did not pay arrears and/or ongoing support before the program was created. After the program was created and launched, all 911 cases began actively making payments and engaging with their case managers. Approximately $2.7m was collected from these 911 cases, consisting of $2.1m in arrears and $600k from ongoing support.
The 2023 NCSEA Innovative Partnership/Collaboration Award goes to Justice Involved Parents & Children by the County of San Diego Department of Child Support Services.
