NCSEA has reached out to OCSE requesting that the IV-D programs use parentage for paternity, meeting the needs of today’s families, including same-sex parent families. NCSEA believes interpreting the term “paternity” as “parentage” will provide a connection between the child and parents, treat all children equally, and hold both parents accountable for their child’s support. It also will promote child support programs that are providing needed parentage establishment services to same sex parents. Read the full letter here.
