Job Description:

A Dynamic Spokesperson

A skilled communicator who serves as an articulate, persuasive, and effective spokesperson for CSDA by effectively representing its mission, goals, and services to the membership, staff, and both current and prospective supporters and partners.

The Executive Director will be politically astute with exceptional interpersonal skills and a keen understanding of government and policy-making processes — a leader who inherently enjoys the external side of the role.

A Strategic Leader

Our next leader will be inspiring, intellectually curious, and engaged with a strong ability to lead through influence, think and plan strategically, seize new opportunities and consistently assess the organization’s efforts to optimize programs, service and advocacy. The Executive Director will drive the implementation CSDA’s 10-year vision through the Strategic Plan, work with the Board to shape the future direction of the organization by contributing big-picture, bold, strategic thinking.

This leader will be successful at planning and implementation to ensure that day-to-day operations are aligned with strategic goals while also being nimble, adaptable, and innovative in response to emerging needs. This leader will have a demonstrated ability to lead an organization, synthesizing across viewpoints and interests of stakeholders, evolving a clear vision and strategy for how CSDA can continue to grow, strengthen its work and maximize impact.

Advocacy

Develop effective relationships with decision makers such as legislators, lobbyists, contractors, volunteers and aligned organizations, to advance CSDA’s mission.

It is essential the Executive Director brings a track record of building support and influence with key stakeholders, policymakers and other leaders across lines of difference, in an astute and diplomatic manner.

The Executive Director will be a liaison to allied organizations and entities across the state, regional and federal landscape. while simultaneously working to build consensus among the members along with county and local child support agencies to achieve priorities as well as inform and advance policy legislation.

Operations

The Executive Director will oversee financial operations, including financial controls and budgetary planning. They will work with the Board to create short- and long-term revenue models aligned with programmatic goals to ensure the financial sustainability and solvency of the organization. The Executive Director will also ensure Board meetings and Board committees operate effectively and efficiently by keeping the Board fully informed on the condition of the organization. Qualifications:

Education and Experience

Attainment of an MPA or MBA or other equivalent advanced degree in a related field is preferred and a minimum of five years of leadership experience in a complex organization that includes effective advocacy, engaging in strategic planning, management, development and supervision of personnel, financial planning, and budget management.Bachelor’s degree minimum (MPA, MBA, or CAE Certification preferred)

  • Previous success in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with individuals and organizations of influence such as legislators, legislative staff, State Department of Finance, Legislative Analyst’s Office, State Health and Human Services Agency, State Department of Child Support Services, advocacy groups, other associations, community partners, etc.
  • Experience in successfully advocating for legislative changes
  • Demonstrated skill in association management
  • Strong communication, presentation, facilitation, and collaboration skills
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop a high-performance team.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of the principles and techniques of fiscal and organizational management, principles and practices of public policies and relations, and contract administration and negotiation.

COMMUNICATION: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to provide timely, relevant, and accurate information. Communication must be fully transparent and demonstrate the highest levels of integrity to internal and external stakeholders. Ability to exercise emotional intelligence.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; exhibit independent judgment in the development, implementation and evaluation of plans, procedures and policies; and interpret a variety of instructions.
