2023 Director Candidate: Laura Van Buskirk

Laura was born and raised in the Kansas City metropolitan area. She began her child support career in 2004 as an attorney in Kansas City, Kansas. Laura worked as an attorney in multiple counties in Kansas, and in both the public and private sectors. In the fall of 2014, Laura moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming, where she served as project manager for YoungWilliams overseeing 13 counties’ child support operations. In May of 2020, Laura’s little girl dream of living in the Golden State came true when she was appointed Director of the Placer County Department of Child Support Services.

Before falling in love with and dedicating her career to the child support program, Laura helped survivors of crime navigate the criminal justice system in cases of homicide, child abuse, and sexual abuse. Laura believes firmly in the power of empathy and kindness to heal and to transform people’s lives. She strives to embrace these principles every day.

Laura is licensed to practice law in Kansas, Missouri, and Wyoming.
